Leave it to Ron to even have the fanciest, most expensive paperweight! At least it has "other uses", so it isn't totally worthless.
Mick, Looks like a couple of nice chunks of wood! A hollow SFC? Flame over Black Limba? Sounds cool so far. I can't wait to see the next step in the progression. -Alex

Neat-o! That's some awfully pretty maple there.
So Mick, knowing your proclivities for useful gadgets and doodads in your guitars, what's going in this one? The control layout looks like you're having a Rat pedal installed in there What's the scoop? Onboard Theremin? Built in blender for cocktails and controlled feedback? 1 Volume, 1 Tone, 3 whack-a-moles with mallet hanging from the rear strap button? I see a 5-way blade for Ron's special swiss army humbucker wiring. What looks like 2 additional toggle switches, I'm assuming an on/off switches for piezo and whatever the additional widget is. I of course immediately realized that the 9 volt battery was reference to show that there's no way a car battery will fit inside to power your flux capacitor and get you up to speed. I'm sorry Mick. No 1.21 gigawatts for you. -e. |

Re: SFC | ||
Quote: Well, one switch turns on the fog machine, another the mirror ball, another for the strobe light, and the last one for the Lawrence Welk bubbles. Quote: Actually the controlled feedback is fairly close. The circuit board is a sustainer circuit that takes part of the signal from the treble/bridge pickup and feeds it to the neck pickup/driver...very similar to an eBow. One of the circuit board switches is on/off for the sustainer. With it OFF, the guitar functions just like any regular guitar. The other switch on the board selects the type of feedback generated. It has three positions; Normal, Harmonic, and Mix modes. Normal just vibrates the string to keep it going. The Harmonic mode accentuates the 5th order harmonics much like high volume feed back except you can get it at any volume. The first knob under the bridge is a gain control to adjust the amount of signal being sent to the sustainer driver. The middle will be volume and the last one a tone control. One of the non-sustainer switches will be a coil splitter and the other a phase switch. The 5-way blade is just your average old 5-way switch. The treble/bridge PU will be a Wagner Fillmore. I have these in Thorn #049 and I love 'em. The middle PU will be an Anderson M1 mini-bucker, which has one of the best split single coil sounds available. There you have it. I do get into max'ed out electronics. |

Quote: You should love the Sustainer Mick, if you've already owned one before, you know it already. I've got one on a Warmoth parts guitar I patterned after a Suhr Reb Beach Koa guitar. The Sustainer rocks. Just make sure to unplug your guitar when you're not playing it to avoid battery drainage. |

Funny stuff guys. I was waiting for the filter/ heater controls for the tropical fishbowl installed in the hollow body. la "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka."

Re: SFC | ||

Alex, I was afraid the hollowbody fishbowl might break like one of his shoes did and the gold fish would come flopping out.
Mike, I did do a sustainer installation in a Jackson/Charvel Pro Soloist guitar I have. It was such a dead guitar to me prior to the sustainer, but the sustainer just brought the guitar to life. I can't imagine what it is going to be like in a great guitar like Ron builds. I'm like a kid at Christmas and can hardly wait to find out. Not to mention, my Charvel does not have all the other extras and great PU's the Thorn will have. |
