 OK, so maybe this isn't exactly Room #148, but it's the next best thing for those of us not in attendance. A place to post the happenings from this weekend. If you get to go, be sure to thrill us all with your tales from the Thorn/Phatdaddy compound as well as any other goodies you may stumble across at the show. Photos, stories, limericks! It's sunday at almost 1 in the morining. I'm bushed! Still gotta pack up for the ride home timorrow.
Great show, saw lots of peeps, got some timwe on the hot rod, and had a ball. More later, gotta get some shuteye. E, the poster is fantstic. Thank you SOO much. BTW Short version,..... Josh Smith and Vivagold (mark) came in and just BLEW some killer playing. As usual....pondering when to burn my guitars. LOL Great to see some friends, Dane, JamesS, Godfrey, and anyone I'm forgeting! (Yawn) more once home, maybe Nick and Ron will chime in tomorrow. (today)? ______________________

I think I need another nap. The two hour one I had this afternoon isn't cutting it for me.
The show was pretty good overall. We had a lot of people come in and check out the guitars and had a lot of interest. We'll see what kind of exposure we get in the next few weeks with inquiries and what-not. We had a nice dinner Saturday night with Steve, Mike, John and his wife, and myself after the show. Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!! I had a great time hanging out and seeing everyone. A big thank you needs to go out to Big Mike and Steve for helping set up with the booth, they went way above and beyond as always. Also to John and his wife, they helped out a lot when we broke down the booth and loading out. You guys are saints!!!!! ----------------------------------

Big fun...just big fun....
The booth run by Thorn Guitars and Phatdaddy's was incredible! Debie and I wandered through the different rooms, and Room 148 was definitely a huge cut above the rest.  What more could any gearhead ask for? The Hot Rod series Jr. 90's were just incredible, I can't say enough about how cool they looked. But, that wasn't the best thing about them. I had the pleasure of listening to some terrific guitarists pulling out a myriad of tones with nothing more than guitar straight into amp. Almost any great tone you could think of was pulled out of these great instruments. I was impressed by just how open sounding and versatile these were....the bar was set to a new level with these!Lot's of great amps to plug into as well The new Greer Hellfire was a big hit, everyone was plugging into it. Reinhardt's 18 watter was getting a bunch of play as well. Seems like the Greer Ghetto Stomp was the pedal in the booth that was getting used the most. I watched Josh Smith put a couple of Ron's guitars into the Greer and it was just a treat. Plus, some kid named Owen wandered into the booth towards the end of the show and just dazzled everyone with the stylistic ground you could cover with one of Ron's guitars and one of the fine amps in the room. Just a treat... Thanks to Ron, Mike and Nick for letting Debie and I hang with you guys. I think all the "help" we provided was getting in the way, but that's probably another story. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the breakfast bill....?  - John

That was a great looking poster.
I had a hell of a time hanging with Ron and Big Mike. It was a total "tone fest". All of the amps that Mike had sounded great. The stomp boxes were extremely versatile. I am getting a Batch Of "A" for myself. As far as Ron's guitars: What could you say, they were beyond expectaions. The tone was amazing. They are still my favorites. Looking foreward till next time. |

Oh yeah, had a hoot and a half. Cool guitars and killer amps aside, what really makes it special is seeing the buds. BigMike, Steve (amstaf1), Dane, Simeon, MarkG(vivagold), John and Debie Hurtt, Noodle, Seriouspoo, just to name a few. Thanks everyone for stopping in and saying hey!  Big Mike's stash of amps was brutally impressive. The Greer Hellfire may reign supreme over my previous favorite the Greer Thunderbolt 30. What unreal tones...emphasis on the "s". One guitar, one cable, on amp...tons of tones. I thought we had a cool looking room, at least everyone commented on the pro-look of it. It was a smaller version of the old GMP NAMM booth which has been tucked away in my garage for the past 2 years. I kept thinking about Kramer and the Merv Griffin set. Eric's badass poster looked super cool - thank you! One is going in the shop and the other one on my wall at home...it's tool cool not to look at at all times. It was a complete treat hearing the variety of styles that the Jr-90s can cover based on the player. From shread, to chicken pickin', to full blown jazz, to tasty blues, you name it....it was all there at your fingertips. The Thorn Team was very proud of that. Thank you everyone for stopping in and saying hey. I really appreciate it and NickVig...you were the man this weekend, thanks for working so hard on everything! Now, back to work on the Artisans

Oh buddy...I wish we had recorded Owen playing Steve's Hot Rod. There is 9 settings on the guitar (3-way pickup selector x 3-way mini for Series/Split/Parallel) and in all 9 positions it sounded amazing. It was as if there was a setting for every style of music playable on a guitar. Owen was playing funk, blues, country, rock, you name it...he would flick a switch, play a little to hear it's voicing, and off he would go into a tune or riff that was perfect for that tone. Tlak about a demo! Steve's has the Pasadena '86 humbuckers which are a little hotter than the 80's but by rolling back the Volume it cleaned up wonderfully. John Gaudesi has really outdone himself with the pickups - they are flat-out incredible. Ron |

 I can't wait to see some pics of the all rosewood Jr's. I seem to remember specing out an all rosewood Thorn standard a while back, but that idea went on the back burner when the SFC was introduced.--------------------
